Packaging & Design: Some Food for Thought

As you know, I am always so fascinated with packaging and design of different products. I don't know what it is exactly that is so intriguing...I guess I always think how interesting it would be to be a "fly on a wall" in the board room as company executives are sitting around the table talking about branding and such.

So when Baked Lays got a recent make-over, I couldn't help but notice it right away as I walked down the grocery aisle.....passing the chips of course. Ha, ha.

Here are some example of what the old packaging looked like:

And here is the new, updated version of these same bags:

Personally, I LOVE the new look of the bags. I think it's fresh, crisp, and pleasing to the eye. But there's an interesting conversation going on over at the Lays blog with some customers hating the look and their new advertising campaign.

In the entire scheme of life, I know it's really not that big of a deal. But interesting nonetheless. :)

So what do you think?

  2. Yes, I noticed it too. Baked Lays are my downfall. I eat them all the time. I could probably give up all sugar, but not my Baked Lays.

I like the new look too!

  3. Well, I guess we are more of the greasy, heart burn, salt lover kind over here. We always buy the original not so healthy kind of chips. So, I guess I didn't even notice. However, now that you mention it, I think there are some new flavors available like a honey barbecue if I am remembering my grocery outing. You know with kids in tow, it's a wonder I make it out of the grocery store with what I went in there for - LOL

  4. The old packaging catches my eye more but the new packaging is a crisp and clean look. I guess really I don't have a preference and I'm kind of oblivious to new packaging! LOL, it takes me forever to notice new things like this.

  5. Without having read the other blog, I'll say that the old bags looked like they were geared more to kids and preteens. The new bags look more "grown-up," like they're trying to switch their market.

  8. I like the new packaging but I haven't seen the ads yet. I might end up changing my mind if they're as bad as people are saying.
