Our New Back-to-School Tradition: "Cleaning the Sink!"

With the end of the summer here and the start of school just around the corner, we decided we would begin a new tradition with the kids.

And it was all about cleaning the sink.

"What?!" you may ask. (Trust me, my kids felt the same way.) That was until they saw this....

OK, now THAT'S my idea of cleaning the sink! LOL

So over the past week, I got to take some 1st graders, some 5th graders, and some 7th graders (all on different days) over to a local restaurant in town who challenges you to "clean the sink" with this ginormous (Is that a word?) amount of ice cream. All you need to do is order one of them, and you've got the masses filled with a special treat. :)

They all dug in as soon as it arrived to the table. Each got to scoop the banana split and put into their own bowls.

For the gals going into 5th and 7th grades, we came back to the house afterwards and decorated clipboards for school. I'll show those pics in a later post. With the 1st graders, coming back to the house and letting them play together made for a great summer afternoon.

So was the challenge met?

I'll let you be the judge. :)

Farewell summer!

  1. Oh, I'll meet that challenge!! Sounds like the only good way to clean the sink for me :)

What a nice idea! You are such a great mom! Can't wait to see the clipboards-bet the girls loved making them. Such a special way to start the school year.

  2. When my friend Kindra came from Illinois we ate there and they were telling me about this. I didn't realize that they actually serve it to you in a sink, lol! What a fun idea this was for your kids. Maybe I need Travis to do this before his mission!

  3. Holy cow! That looks like a pretty clean sink. Talk about licking it clean!!! OK, I gotta ask. What's the charge for that heap in the sink? Sounds and looks like it was a great time for the kids. Wish I were closer, I would have loved to have watched the excitement!

  4. That is so fun! I like that tradition. This reminds me of an ice cream place in Freson that used to be there. They had a pig's trough that you could eat out of. If you ate it by yourself they would give you a ribbion etc. Guess who got a ribbion? (I was in the 6th grade)

  5. What a great "end to the summer" activity. I bet the kids had so much fun and were stuffed afterwords. I love the idea of the older kids making clipboards for school. Can't wait to see that post!

  6. Heather, you had asked about the price of this puppy. Actually it wasn't too bad. Only $10 and I felt like that was steal since we had 10 girls there! :)

  7. What a fun idea, and way to celebrate the end of summer! (And "ginormous" is a common word at our house too, and yes, officially a word. I looked it up some time ago myself! lol)
